Company Press Release

Hyperthermia Makes Radiation and Chemotherapy More Effective

SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- BSD Medical Corp. (OTC Bulletin Board: BSDM - news) announces further confirmation by physicians that hyperthermia, in conjunction with either radiation or chemotherapy, substantially improves cancer treatment effectiveness. These clinical results were presented to over a hundred physicians, research scientists and other medical professionals gathered from around the world at the recently held 1999 European Society for Hyperthermic Oncology in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The physicians concluded that in the future hyperthermia would be used routinely to treat many types of cancer.

Clinical results demonstrated that hyperthermia enhances the effectiveness of chemotherapy. Results of ten studies were presented on the effectiveness of combined hyperthermia and chemotherapy treatment of a number of tumors, including breast cancer, brain tumors, ovarian cancer and colon cancer. Studies demonstrated that hyperthermia added to chemotherapy could increase disease free survival time and patient survival.

An impressive number of studies demonstrated a significant improvement in treatment results when hyperthermia is combined with radiation. Researchers concluded that, "combined radiation therapy and hyperthermia improves response rate in patients with advanced primary breast carcinoma," and that the "combination of hyperthermia and radiotherapy provides an improvement in results for the treatment of recurrent rectal carcinoma ..." A study conducted at Long Beach Memorial Hospital and the University of California concluded that hyperthermia provides "improved results in the treatment of otherwise hopeless patients with recurrent head and neck cancers."

The sentiments of the meeting were captured in the words of Dr. Gerard Van Rhoon of Dr. Daniel den Hoed Kliniek in Rotterdam who said, "The power of hyperthermia is that it has a high potential to increase the effect of current conventional techniques such as radiotherapy or chemotherapy, and, besides enhancing the effects, it has no toxicity." Dr. Clare Vernon of the Hammersmith Hospital in London put it even more simply. She said, "I think every major cancer center should have a hyperthermia unit."
