Father Flanagan is in a small rural hospital to have an abdominal growth removed.

In the next room, one of the local trailer trash Lolitas is having a baby. Being poor and 14, she doesn't want to keep the baby, but wants it to have a good home. After pleading with the staff not to send it to the adoption agency, one of the nurses suggests letting Father Flanagan raise it. The girl agrees knowing how good a man Father Flanagan is.

"Father, a miracle has happened. You have given birth to a wonderful little boy!!", the nurse says. Well, the good Father is having a Demerol hangover and buys the story. True to his nature, he raises the boy into a fine young man who leads an exemplary life.

Finally, the priest is on his death bed and asks to see Mark (the son). "Mark", he says, "I have always told you that I was your father. It isn't true. I'm your mother. The bishop is your father."
