Sprint sees over 5 mln mobile subs
GENEVA, Oct 11 (Reuters) - Sprint Corp , the U.S. carrier that has agreed to a record $115 billion bid by MCI WorldCom Inc , said on Monday it expected its booming cellphone arm to have more than five million customers by year end.
"We have well over four million customers (to date) and we'll have considerably higher than five million customers by the end of the year," Chairman and Chief Executive William Esrey told Reuters in an interview.
"It is the most rapidly growing cellular company in the history of the world."
Two-year-old Sprint PCS , which is separately listed, has licences covering the entire country, giving it a potential customer base of nearly 270 million people in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin islands.
The wireless business, which Esrey said was growing between 150 and 200 percent faster than its nearest rivals, is seen as a benchmark company for America's mobile phone industry. |
