JF A thought to sleep on.
Subject: The long (5+years)term view.

A race is on to bring broad band links to everyone that wants/needs one in the US of A, with Europe, Japan and the rest of the world to follow. Fibre optics and cable look like the best current bets to make this happen. When/if broad band becomes essential for work/play (5 yrs or so?) will we be satisfied with a fixed plug system? My guess is no way!!!

Microwave seems like the best bet for broad band mobile but it chews up system capacity. Bell Labs working on a multiple antenna scheme to multiplex single channel microwave links ( lots of antennas and signal processing involved). Superconducting filters increase channel capacity in the available sprectrum.

Conclusion: Helix not only has an excellent future in silicon fabrication, optical coatings, displays, storage and "Gold Link" for process monitoring but also a reasonable chance of using their refrigerators in the microwave playing field.

Anyone else looking at 2 rainbows with separate pots of gold???? Comments? Regards --- jtj
