Exodus is never a competitive option to Data Return. Think of it this way... Exodus does colocation in the data centers they own and that's all they do. They provide the network, you provide the server. Data Return, on the other hand, does not do colocation at all. They provide the server, you provide... nothing but a web page.
I'm not saying this is good or bad for either company. They both have competition. But it just isn't each other. If you talk to someone who works at Data Return, they are obsessed with one thing. Being the best NT host on the planet. If you talk to someone at Exodus, they are concerned with one thing. Being the fastest network "backbone" on the planet. Likely no one at Exodus knows a whole heck of a lot about Windows NT, not in-depth anyway, while everyone at Data Return does. Not many at Data Return would know much about networking (that's why they have Level 3 as a partner, as they might have had Exodus as a partner, and still could in the future), whereas everyone at Exodus does know about networking.
In short, web hosts (i.e. Data Return) put their servers at colocation providers (i.e. Exodus) if they don't want to build their own network from scratch. Data Return chose not to, and so they selected Level 3 to provide colocation services. |
