Yeah the meat packers vs the cowboys. Now there's an interesting observation. I remember as a kid, we always spent a week or two in the summer up in Oconto county. Drove through GB on old HWY 57 or was it HWY 32? I can't recall. We always went along the river through De Pere. Without fail, my dad would tell this story.
'Do you know how De Pere got it's name? Well once, long ago a pair of Indians were trying to cross the river. One took a long pole with him and waded in. Every 5 steps he would measure the depth with the pole. All of a sudden he stepped past a drop-off and went in over his head. When he came back up he called to his buddy: "UGH. deep here!"'
