what if you use more than one brokerage Pretty much anything you can imagine to get around the wash sale rule is not permitted. No buying right before selling. No identifying shares, no seperate accounts (not even in the name of a spouse or a child), no deep in the money options, no warrants- nothing. The wash rule has a purpose. It is to prevent what we all want to do- claim a loss we have not actually taken. Of course they aren't that likely to catch you, but why take the chance? Eric
