Sprint PCS, IBM Target On-The-Go
Workers

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Reuters) - Wireless phone company Sprint
PCS Group (NYSE:PCS - news) and computer maker
International Business Machines Inc. (NYSE:IBM - news) said
on Wednesday they plan to develop a wide variety of products
and services for on-the-go business people.

The new services, planned for next year, will enable employees
to use the Sprint PCS Wireless Web to get and send corporate
e-mail, as well as access schedules and other personalized
business information with Sprint PCS Internet-ready phones.

Users will be able to use their wireless phones to access much of
the same information as they can today with a personal
computer, the companies said.

For Sprint PCS, which has the nation's largest all-digital wireless
phone network, the plans with IBM follow the September launch
of its Wireless Web Connection, which allows business
customers to connect to a corporate Intranet or the Internet by
connecting a cable to a laptop or handheld computer, but using a
Sprint PCS phone in place of a modem.

For IBM, the plans are part of its push into what it calls
pervasive computing with new communications software,
computers and semiconductor chips designed for mobile
computing. The plans include IBM's enterprise software and new
hosting services, the companies said.

''The enterprise computing solutions that IBM and Sprint PCS
will bring to the table speak to the great need for clear, mobile
access to any information, on any device, virtually anywhere,
anytime,'' Charles Levine, chief sales and market officer for
Sprint PCS, said in a statement.

Shares of Sprint PCS, which is a wholly owned tracking group
of Sprint Corp. (NYSE:FON - news), closed on Tuesday at
91-12/16, and IBM shares settled at 103-1/16, both on the New
York Stock Exchange.
