WAYLAND, Mass.--(BW HealthWire)--April 16, 1997--Candela Corporation (NASDAQ:CLZR) announced today the opening of a new laser cosmetic center in Cairo, Egypt. This center is based within the Al-Salam International Hospital and is a joint-venture with local Egyptian investors. The company owns 51 percent of the joint-venture and several others are currently in the planning stage. The company expects that most of its international laser centers will be developed as joint-ventures with local partners.

The opening of the Candela Skin Care Center of Cairo is part of the company's diversification plan to bring its 27 years of laser technology experience to consumers by opening both cosmetic laser treatment centers and LaserSpas. The Candela LaserSpas also offer therapeutic body treatments, weight training, cardiovascular training, diet programs and health club memberships, among other amenities.
The company currently has two LaserSpas - one located in Scottsdale, Arizona, which opened last month, and the other located in Boston, Massachusetts, which will open later this month.
