Way back I saw a note that the brightness of SiC LEDs did
not equal that of some of the Gallium compounds.
Also remember that GE has a thing going with EMKR using
Gallium rather than SiC and that UTCI is also
involved .

My question is -- is there a clear advantage to
either approach based on cost or other considerations
or should we hedge our bets in this high stakes game?
