Re: Java I've had a long-running disagreement with George Gilder on the subject of Java and its value to SUNW. The question, in a nutshell, is how will SUNW actually make money from Java? Note that to date it hasn't made a dime on the language as development and promotion expenses have far exceeded the modest licensing revenue they've collected. The irony is that SUNW is likely to make as much off of Java as T made off of C and C++ (both of which originated at Bell Labs). SUNW's attempts to maintain proprietary control over Java while at the same time promoting it as an "standard" goes against the entire history of programming language development and is something that standards bodies such as ISO and ECMA fully understand.
