George, as you must know, I agree wholeheartedly with Coby. Remember, "To every thing there is a season...." Looking for more personal relations and interpersonal interaction must be appropriate to your person right now; therefore, you find yourself doing it. It is a healthy thing to do, to follow your instincts and further your own well-being.

Coby found something and supportive from her interactions on SI at a time when it was needed and welcome. As you know, so have I. When my uncle was so ill and died recently, the warmth and thoughtfulness on SI were of real help--not only the public postings but also the PMs trying to think of ways to deal with the dilemma of trying to keep him in the hospital or get him to follow medical advice. In a number of difficult times and special ways, friends on SI have added to the 3D world. They are not a substitute; rather, they are an enhancement.

Being a serene hermit is a fine way to be. However, this may not be wholly the season for it for you. Even a frond moves with the shifting currents.

So what's the story with the ear?
