My thought was that we were mutually engaged in truth-seeking, with frolics, detours, and side-shows along with the main excursion.
I do like holidays, although the obligatory stuff can seem like drudgery, actually is drudgery, although usually I enjoy the results. The two things I hate the most about Christmas are shopping for, and wrapping, presents.
Last year I discovered the joy of catalogues, but when the gifts arrived and were unwrapped, many of them were far cheesier than they looked in the photos. Some were quite nice. Maybe I should have ordered further in advance, and sent back the cheesy ones. This year I let my husband do the shopping. Oddly enough, he likes to shop.
I don't make an enormous effort, and if I lived alone I probably wouldn't do much. But I do like a Christmas tree. I started collecting ornaments years ago. I am quite selective, I buy maybe one or two a year, usually after Christmas when they are half price. I've got one for the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian, the National Zoo, the Capitol, and Fairfax County, since I moved here, and when I was in New Orleans I got a crawfish, a shrimp, a trout, a crab, and an alligator. And lots of others. Silly things, but they please me.
And we always make a feast for holidays, we really make an effort to have a great dinner that everyone enjoys. We've got Christmas music, too. And tasty snacks.
And we'll go to church Christmas eve. |
