Leaders of ultra-orthodox Jewish sects ban Internet use

JAN 11, 2000, M2 Communications - Leaders of virtually all
ultra-Orthodox Jewish sects have banned their followers from using the
Internet because of its links to pornography sites.

The leaders met recently and endorsed the ban that was initiated in
October by rabbis belonging to the influential Belz Hasidic sect. A
computer ban was also proposed, but the rabbis rejected the idea
because computers have proved valuable in teaching the Bible and in
running businesses.

According to the Washington Post, the ruling will affect most of
Israel's 500,000 ultra-Orthodox Jews.
