I have been using a cable modem at home now for about 20 months. Recently I learned that my cable service (Broadband Now / Optel) uses MCI Worldcom as its internet connection at my location. Regardless of whether one uses a modem or cable to connect, the service provider still needs to get to the backbone of the internet.
