NetIQ Awarded Contract by Data Return for Initial 2,000 Server Licenses
Joint Development Partnership to Advance New Generation Monitoring And Management Tools on Microsoft Platform
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- NetIQ® Corp. (Nasdaq: NTIQ - news), a leading provider of eBusiness infrastructure management software that lets organizations optimize the performance and availability of their Windows NT- and Windows 2000-based systems and applications, today announced a partnership and licensing contract with Data Return Corporation (Nasdaq: DRTN - news), a leading provider of advanced Web and application hosting services. The companies are working together to provide eBusinesses with reliable and scalable management of Web and messaging applications based on Microsoft platforms.

Data Return provides its customers with advanced managed hosting services of applications such as Microsoft Exchange and custom applications based on Microsoft Internet Information Services and Microsoft Back Office Products, all running on Compaq systems. NetIQ ensures the availability and optimizes the performance of those same Windows NT- and Windows 2000-based systems and server applications with the NetIQ AppManager Suite.

Data Return is licensing the AppManager solution to centrally manage and monitor Data Return's application-hosting data centers worldwide. The contract covers the initial management of 2,000 servers and is expected to grow.

''With customers demanding 99.995% availability of their Web and messaging applications, Data Return chose the AppManager Suite to ensure our customers receive industry leading up-times for their mission-critical hosted applications,'' says Sunny C. Vanderbeck, chairman and CEO of Data Return. ''By partnering with NetIQ, we can offer proactive advanced application management solutions that exceed even our customers' expectations.''

Both companies are cooperating on ways to continually improve the application hosting service offered to customers. Data Return will utilize the AppManager Suite as a component of its ''ServerWatch'' customized monitoring and management services. The companies will jointly develop additional ''Knowledge Scripts®,'' or monitoring functions, based on customers' specific needs and applications. NetIQ is providing full-time, on-site staffing at Data Return to maximize collaboration efforts between the two companies.

The companies share a common vision in utilizing Microsoft technologies as a competitive advantage. ''Businesses, especially those focused on eBusiness, are looking for the best, and most efficient way to access and manage their critical Web and messaging applications,'' says Ching-Fa Hwang, president and CEO of NetIQ Corporation. ''By exploiting the advanced technologies of the Windows NT and Windows 2000 operating systems, Data Return and NetIQ can provide customers with the highest availability and performance of their business-critical applications, while reducing the associated costs.''

NetIQ AppManager Suite

The NetIQ AppManager Suite is a comprehensive solution for monitoring the performance and availability of over 30 distributed Windows NT- and Windows 2000-based systems and server applications such as Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL, Citrix, Oracle, SAP R/3 and Lotus Domino. From a central console, administrators can configure Knowledge Scripts that collect performance data and monitor for simple or complex events. When an event occurs, a Knowledge Script can take corrective action, such as restarting a server that has gone down or sending a page. The result is a powerful and automated ''closed-loop'' solution that proactively detects and resolves problems across a highly distributed Windows NT and Windows 2000 environments. Administrators can also run more than 200 prepackaged reports or create custom reports to verify performance-support goals and analyze capacity requirements. AppManager optimizes performance, provides service level reporting, ensures availability, and reduces support costs associated with managing and monitoring distributed Windows NT and Windows 2000 environments.
