I think most newbies tend to throw their money at anything moving higher never realizing that the ride may soon end in a very bad way. It is hard work doing your own quality research. I personally have learned many times not to jump into someone else's hot stock pick. There is always time to do research and there is always another stock which might give an investor a very nice return. The question is which ones does an investor pick? Certainly being in a hot sector helps. Pure Internet plays have definitely cooled. Where are the profitable Dot Coms? On the other hand Biotechnology as an industry is beginning to blossom as more and more companies become profitable. Still even in that regard some of these companies are finding their stocks at all time highs and that cannot last forever. This is the reason that I have turned to technical analysis to help me make better decisions. I am not as astute as many in this area but with the advent of tremendous charting services I can fairly easily ascertain when a stock is oversold or overbought.

Right now I am looking through the lists I have put together to find quality companies in hot sectors with stock prices that have consolidated and may be ready to move higher. The next step is to contact someone in IR and someone at the company. During the conversations which will take place I as an investor must realize that I will most likely be told just exactly what I want to hear. Investor relations firms are hired to promote stocks. Anyone worth their salt as a company contact had better be a damned good proponent of that stocks future.

Newbies if you are reading this please take it to heart.

It is your money you invest and your responsibility for your own gains and losses. Do your own due diligence and do it with your eyes wide open.
