I wouldn't know anything about any of that stuff.

LOL!

Yeah, they still exist. It's not "boiler room" inside the industry. It's called "The Pit". That would have been a better title for the movie, in fact.

And they are the pits, and that's a fact.

BTW, the term "boiler room" is used for any high pressure phone sales gimmick. There are thousands of variations...vacations, insurance, roofing, Help the Police Association...any kind of sales that is done on the phone is probably coming to you from a boiler room.

I screw with the people that call me and read from a script to me like I can't tell they are reading. I coach them a little on how to sound more natural and try to make it sound like they are not reading.

Most of the time they are just regular people that walked in and needed a job, but the owners of these boiler room companies can sometimes be rather sleezy. It's impossible for me to take the time to try and figure out who is cool and who is not so cool. I just say no thanks and hang up usually.

My favorite one of all time was the "free Bermuda vacation" that I got in the mail. Big certificate, very official. Call the 800 number and get your free vacation.

"No, it's not really free, see down there in the small print? You read it wrong. It's really 200 bucks, but it's worth 800 bucks, what's your credit card number, and thank you very much."

The dude probably gets five bucks for every close and makes about 40 bucks a day. The company he works for probably owns the little hotel in Bermuda and cuts a deal with the boat that takes you over.

I passed.
