Hello to the Wise & Worthy Mr. Fox,

I think both of us have similar thoughts on what it takes to form a club and have it grow and prosper. For three years prior to forming the AIM Gang - Redneck Division, people had been after me to start an Investment club. For personal reasons I didn't like the idea of investing as a group. Then I stumbled on to the AIM BB and I began to toy with the idea of forming a club for the purpose of becoming better investors. Basically all I have done is bring the AIM BB discussion to a local level, meeting once a month.

Like you I knew that getting the right people involved was the key. I have been in a fishing club for over twenty years. So I proposed the idea to that group one night and I believe that I had 12 out of 24 that showed some interest. So our connections are that we fish together, do business with each other and we are long time friends.

After the first three months I thought that the club would fold. Only three of us were attending the meetings. But then for whatever reason members started attending and the quality of the discussion improved 100%. We had a few of the original members go by the way side, but newer members have come along that are dead serious about learning about Risk Management. Here is a copy of our mission statement:

Section 2: Purpose

To discuss investing using the AIM (Automatic Investment Management) theory as our guide. To eliminate our emotions and Greed from the process. To discuss taxation, estate planning, wills and transferring the wealth. To help each other pick the best possible
Stocks, Mutual Funds, Closed-End Funds and interest bearing tools. To keep it simple, honest and fun.

I would like to encourage others to form local clubs also. The biggest benefit is the continuing education.
Sometimes there are items discussed on the AIM BB that I can't quite comprehend in a few posts. But then at the club meetings we are able to dig deeper into the discussion and document it properly for use in the future. We are currently trying to establish a charter membership in Little Rock. Who knows how many AIM clubs will be around the country ten years from now. Vision...

One last comment. We don't invest as a group but we collect monthly dues and our pot is growing slowly. At some point down the road we may invest our treasury to fund our expenses.

Keith

PS - The group has asked that the agenda for the next meeting be on research (due diligence). Anyone got any suggestions?
