el, OT. may i ask why you are not concerned about qcom's key cdma patents expiring in 2003? their business plan seems to be to get down to a stream of royalty payments; which should produce say 80% profit margins, but which will stop in 2003. if that is right, they are essentially a depleting asset, like an oil well, and'll have to return 30 to 40% NET PROFIT every year through 2003 for an investor just to break even, and right now it earns just pennies because there are 6 billion shares outstanding - one for every man, woman and child on Earth. of course, i only have what i've heard about the expiring patents - but if it's true, it is a huge gorilla staring at us, but which we refuse to see.
