BELL ATLANTIC (BEL) topped our list with 81 new research reports. Interest in the company was piqued by the recent creation of Verizon Wireless, which combines BELL ATLANTIC's wireless operations with VODAFONE AIRTOUCH's (VOD) United States cellular properties. The new company is largest wireless network in the U.S. Multex readers checked out BELL ATLANTIC reports 1,005 times from April 10 to April 16.

Coverage of MCI WORLDCOM (WCOM) had 70 new research reports written about it, spurred by the company's upcoming earnings report. The 1Q00 earnings will for the first time include the results of Skytel Communications. In addition, MCI said it will help to build an undersea, high-speed fiber optic communications network in the Asia-Pacific region. Multex subscribers downloaded reports on the company 2,370 times from April 10 to April 16.

BELLSOUTH (BLS) was the subject of 50 new research reports added to the Multex database. Hot on the heels of Verizon, BELLSOUTH recently combined its wireless operations with those of SBC COMMUNICATIONS (SBC), forming the second-largest U.S. wireless provider. The merger of the wireless divisions is expected to be completed in 4Q00. Multex subscribers researched the company 942 times from April 10 to April 16.

QUALCOMM (QCOM) saw 47 new reports written about it. The company recently beat analysts' earnings estimates by $0.02 per share for 1Q00, and is also looking forward to increased demand in handset and infrastructure chips. Multex subscribers downloaded reports 1,233 times from April 10 to April 16.

BRITISH TELECOMMUNICATIONS (BTY) pulled in 17 new reports. The company recently announced a reorganization designed to address analyst concerns. The restructuring will spin off the company's yellow-pages operations in an IPO by the end of the year, and allow management to focus on faster-growing divisions. Multex subscribers researched the company 189 times from April 10 to April 16.
