<<People have got to start reading those proxies>>The people that most often read these are fundamental shorts. These guys are looking for dirt/problems. I think every value oriented long would be better off to occasionally short. By learning the methods used by fundamental shorts a long becomes much better at discovering 'issues' that might crop up and figuring out why something that looked good isn't panning out.
One short method is to do a search engine scan on names of key managers CEO, CFO. Sometimes they've been involved in shaky deals in the past and an article will turn up.
