Friday's vote by the trustees comes after Beaver president Bette E. Landman said in a letter earlier this year that the name "too often elicits ridicule in the form of derogatory remarks pertaining to the rodent, the TV show 'Leave It to Beaver' and the vulgar reference to the female anatomy."
NEWS UPDATE <joke, no duh>:
In a surprising about-face, Beaver College has opted not to change its name after all, the university said.
Officials at the university changed their vote 0-23 against changing the university name, after conferring with Eddy Haskell, a senior at Beaver College and President of the Beaver Student Association, known affectionately as The Eager Beavers."
Haskell, noted for his clean-cut image and strong attention to civility and politeness, apparently convinced the university to keep the name as is.
"Eddy (Haskell) is a model student, he is so polite," gushed one official. "He said in a very polite voice, 'Good morning to you all, ladies and gentlemen,' and right then he had the whole board spellbound. He then lead the board in a rousing singalong of the school pride songs, 'Our Foes be Dammed' and 'Pride In Beaver.' |
