Fri 16 Jun 2000 News Release
Mr. Gary Allen reports
The company's wholly-owned subsidiary, Fuel Cell Technologies Limited
(FCT), has entered into an agreement with a world leader in solid oxide
fuel cells, Siemens Westinghouse Power Corporation (Siemens Westinghouse).
FCT and Siemens Westinghouse will work together on a feasibility study to
evaluate solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technology for residential and remote
applications. FCT plans to evaluate such a fuel cell as a power unit that
will generate both electricity and useful heat. FCT will be responsible for
system integration and subsystems design and packaging.
Following completion of the feasibility study, FCT and Siemens Westinghouse
will agree on any further development of a prototype system for the
residential and remote power market.
Siemens Westinghouse is developing SOFCs under an existing agreement with
the U.S. department of energy, administrated by the national Energy
Research Laboratory. Siemens Westinghouse is a Siemens company,
headquartered in Orlando, Fla. Within Siemen's global Fossil Power
Generation business, Siemens Westinghouse is the regional business division
for the Americas and operates engineering and manufacturing centers in
North America. In the U.S. and Canada Siemens Westinghouse is also
responsible for industrial turbines, instrumentation and control and
hydroelectric business.
FCT is working toward the commercialization of SOFC power systems that will
generate electrical power and heat for residential and off-grid, remote
locations. In addition, FCT continues its profitable operation in the
production of power sources for the unmanned underwater vehicle market and
remote installations.
