Hi,
Just about 3 years ago I had a similar situation Reading and Bates drilling. They were going to merge with Falcon Drilling. I now longer remember the exact details but as a shareholder I was supposed to get 1.2 or 1.5 shares of the new company for every share of the old company that I held. I didn't want to miss out on all those FREE shares, so I did Vealies rather than sales when AIM called for sales.
Well, I got all those FREE shares which promptly went down in value shortly after the deal was done. Because of my unwillingness to sell I ran out of cash too quickly. It is only recently that my FLC became a profitable holding.
I would advise you to pick up your AIM2000 hat and turn it around and read what it says on the back. After that, take your AIM 2000 shirt and read the slogan on the left sleeve.
My last three transactions in COMS are as follows:
5/21/00 Bought 85 shares at 36.375
5/18/00 Sold 50 shares at 52.9375
7/02/00 SOld 23 shares at 54.8125
If I do a little simple math I see that I took in $3,910 and spent $3,091. I now have 12 shares and $819 more than I had on May 21st. I am showing a 32% profit on a YTD basis on a stock which is up 18%YTD. I started with 200 shares at $40 per share last year. ($8000 stock value and $4000 cash)
At the present time my cash value is $3906. Since I now hold 440 shares I guess one could say that the "new" 240 shares cost me $96 or 40 cents each.
It took me about 3 1/2 years to learn that A.I.M. was better at managing my $$ than my seat of the pants efforts. All the advice we need is on our hats and shirts and most of all in Mr. L's book which I assume we all have read.
Hope this helps.
Bernie
