Re: ATT signed deal w/Insight and now ATT signs deal w/ANTEC
Thread- Previously I posted some information about Insight Communications(a smaller MSO) putting together a significant deal with ATT for T to use Insight's cable plant to connect to customers via cable telephony. Here's the url for that agreement: Message 13232156 ...It's significant in the fact, as I pointed out upstream, that it may serve as a model for ATT to go after the rest of the MSOs for their customers too. The follow-up to the story is, of course, signing a cable telephony equipment deal. That's what ANTEC just announced today(below).
Now the absolutely biggest deal, if it ever happens, will be if ATT signs a deal to connect all of Time Warner's customer to T's LD network using cable telephony. As one can imagine, it's clearly in T's interest to quit paying HUGE access charges to the ILECs and start doing deals with all the MSOs. This is interesting because all the steps have been taken with Insight Communications to serve as a model for other deals.
Here's what I don't like about ANTC. A pretty scathing review but I don't think it's unwarranted: Message 13437518
ANTC has been an extremely lack luster performer on the stock charts. Just one look at a one year chart: siliconinvestor.com ...and it's clear. But it seems pretty dependable as a trading stock. Why? I have no idea.
But, OTOH, their financial performance has been quite strong recently. So I can't figure it out. The pullback from $60/share to around the current $39/share is a mystery to me. Not unexpected, just a mystery. -MikeM(From Florida)

Insight Selects ANTEC and Cornerstone Products to Deliver AT&T Telephone Service in Midwest
DULUTH, Ga., July 24-- ANTEC, a leader in the hybrid fiber/coaxial (HFC) broadband transport industry, announced today that Insight Communications, the eighth largest U.S. cable operator, will use Arris Cornerstone® cable telephony products to deliver AT&T telephone service on Insight's cable lines. The first launch of this service is expected to occur in Insight's Louisville, Kentucky market.
The Cornerstone Super Access system is a product of Arris Interactive, a joint venture of ANTEC and Nortel Networks. It consists of Converged Host Terminals at the cable operator's headend and Voice Ports at the households to provide local telephony services over HFC networks to residential and commercial customers.
"We consider telephone over cable to be a key component of the bundled service offering that our customers want to receive from one company," said Michael Willner, Insight's Chief Executive Officer and President. "We believe that the ANTEC team has proven itself to be a premier technology partner for Insight in its rollout of new services for consumers. This announcement represents a major milestone for both companies since Insight will be the first [non ATT] cable operator to deliver AT&T telephone service over its infrastructure."
Mike Wearsch, President of ANTEC's Digital Systems Division, said, "This agreement is a clear indication of our success and leadership with the Cornerstone products and our Arris joint venture with Nortel Networks. The graceful migration path of the Cornerstone platform to IP telephony ensures that Insight will not strand any capital that it is spending today." |
