Thanks for that response. I used to follow SVGI, but it's been months. I will revisit them.

Would the small lens approach perhaps involve an array of them? That would present interesting but doable challenges, seems to me. The screening bottleneck is wider than you note, but your example of sample preparation is indeed a factor. You are right on with your main theme that that bottleneck can be more easily opened with an integration of various technologies than can the lens bottleneck. The former is a story of doable engineering challenges mostly met now. The latter is still going to require some new thinking and research, it would seem, and then some designing, software development, and retooling . . .
