WIND.....perspective.....

Well, I've been reviewing all the posts on WIND on this thread for the past few days. As a thread elder, I'd like to thank John Huber, Hueyone, Snowshoe, UW, Saukriver, Techreports, tinker, Thomas, Fatboy and many others for their contributions.

I am sure John Huber already knows this, but for the lurkers and newbies, just a brief history lesson. John, you have a chance here to be to WIND/G&K/2000 what Ausdauer was to SNDK/G&K/1999. Same for NYSTEW/G&K/1999. Same for me when I ran the gauntlet for Rambus here, from Spring to Fall, 1999. Same for JDSU for most of 1999.

The point is, each company that eventually moves from Watch & Wait to the top 10 (GKI) or 15 holdings does so after running the gauntlet of scrutiny, usually on numerous occasions. For example, I think Ausdauer first appeared here around June, 1999, reappeared for another run at my invitation around Dec '99, then Jan '00, then the Spring of 2000. We as a thread did not "bless" SanDisk til this past Spring. Which is around when Apollo, UF, Merlin, Tekboy and others invested in SNDK.

This weekend is a pivotal one, IMHO, for G&K and for WIND. I can't recall this level of intense or prolonged discussion on this thread related to this company previously. Continued updates by you and other advocates will be essential in raising the visibility of WIND here. The discussion that ensues from these updates will elevate everybody's knowledge, and will better characterize WIND and its place in the TALC.

It's my humble observation, as the Thread Surveyor, that the blessing of a company by this thread can be measured in the Thread Surveys. People vote with their feet, and it is very enlightening to see how people are investing when they post their Portfolios, and how shifts in the weightings of these investments evolve over time, from Survey to Survey. Witness the increased weighting, for example, in SanDisk from Nov '99 to April '00.

The Survey showed a more than tripling in the Thread ownership of SNDK, which IMHO, is a legitimate Gorilla or gorilla candidate.

BTW, the notion of using 100% YOY revenues as a tornado metric is certainly arbitrary, and imperfect, and subject to manipulation. Moore used it in interviews in the past year, which have been published here. We use it, but we should not be overly enamored with it, or satisfied.

Don't take the WIND discussion anywhere else. Keep it here.

Thanx to the thread,
Apollo
