Prostitute's breast implants ruled tax deductible

COPENHAGEN, Denmark, Sep 19, 2000 (AP WorldStream via COMTEX) -- A Danish
prostitute was allowed to deduct the cost of breast implants on her taxes
because the surgery amounted to a legitimate business improvement, news reports
said Tuesday.

Tax authorities in Vejle, 230 kilometers (143 miles) west of the capital
Copenhagen, initially rejected that claim, arguing it was difficult to
differentiate professional and private use of that part of her body, the
newspaper B.T. reported.

But Vejle's tax appeals board on Monday reversed the ruling and stated the
implants represent a legitimate investment. According to Danish corporate tax
law, investments to improve or maintain facilities for running a business are
tax deductible.

The prostitute was not named by the newspaper, nor was the date of the operation
noted.

A breast implant can cost about 27,000 kroner (dlrs 3,100).

Last year, the Danish parliament legalized prostitution.
