Spare me the lecture, and read the context of the discussion. Going back to Joe's post, where I jumped in:

I believe Clinton received only 43% of the vote, vs. 48% for Bush or Gore in this election. So either man will have at least as much legitimacy. Message 14762787

Or let me just state it again: The fact that Gore got more votes than GWB in this election is a lot more relevant than the fact that W got more votes in this election than Clinton got in his elections, in terms of any abstract "legitimacy" test.

There was 8 years of perpetual whining from Republicans about Clinton's vote totals, along with everything else about Clinton. If W gets his 271 electoral votes, he'll be President, but how people who whined about Clinton's lack of legitimacy will address that issue is another question. I'm sure it will make for great entertainment, though. Consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds, and all that.
