Commerce One Falls on Sales Rumor
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Shares of Commerce One Inc. (NasdaqNM:CMRC - news) fell 18 percent on Friday on rumors of possible sales weakness after the business-to-business software company distributed an internal memo to encourage its sales force, brokerage sources said.

Shares in the Pleasanton, Calif.-based company fell $9-1/2 to $43-13/16 in heavy trade, making it one of the biggest percentage losers on Nasdaq.

J.P Morgan analyst William Epifanio said the company's management reassured him that the memo was part of ordinary end-of-year incentives to the sales force.

``This is totally ordinary; this was completely overblown,'' he said. ``They are halfway through the quarter, and the bottom line is they are doing just fine. We spoke with management today.''
