The place seems to have activity from Visitors on the weekends, been in and out of there since September for one thing or another.
She went through a three-on-one interview; got her age right, the exact date wrong, her birthplace right, her State wrong at first (when she first moved here she lived in NYC). Stuff like that. The Residents seem okay, but I did not wish to intrude on their privacy much. A lot of them are younger than her but appear to be in worse shape so I would demur from quizzing them, even discreetly.
Externally, it seems far better than where she is. That place was built as a Seniors building 26 years ago. Since, many of the people there have had children who did not survive, whether it was AIDS, Drugs, or even just staying at home. So they inherited their grandchildren.
What has happened, the, is that the building gets loud at night with younger people around.
Further, I'm told that some of the local drug dealers "use" the place. That is, say Granny lives there, a dealer drops something off for her grandson or son and the kid comes later to pick it up. It's a relatively safe "drop".
Now this place is in a wooded area away from the more urban place she is in. Very Jewish area, there ia a Temple a hundred yards or two South of it. Watching the mealtime, the residents pick from a menu and are served by waiters.
Sort of like living in a hotel.
They have community activities, a local rehab center comes in each day to provide therapy for those who need it, levels of nursing care are available and she does not have to use an elevator.
Then as well, our costs drop by over 67%. All in all, this does not sound like a bad deal.
If the Tribunal agrees, she can move in two weeks from now. I'll know tomorrow. Then I can mobilize the kids as well as some other of the muscle-bound branches of the Slevin Family and get her stuff moved; my bloodline is the one that just makes phone calls for that sort of thing. The males in the family fall into two groups; either they are muscle men or they are little guys like me. The guys like me either call in the muscle guys or else the next best thing, which is to pay for a mover. |
