<"Nokia Aims to be No. 1 in CDMA Market"

Is this a threat to QUALCOMM's Gorillahood?

I don't see how. The better Nokia does in CDMA, the better Q! does. Every success Nokia has in CDMA sends money to Q! for ASICs, royalties then all the software and whatever else they come up with.

Nokia will continue to delay W-CDMA as much as they can because every day that GSM networks use the GSM air interface is another half million handsets they sell, almost. Nokia is making vast profits every day from GSM. Nokia needs CDMA to develop as slowly as they can make it to maximize their GSM sales. But at the same time they have to be selling CDMA flat out in markets which have already gone CDMA. They need to have W-CDMA ready the day somebody turns on a network, but they will be sharing the W-CDMA subscriber market with a LOT more competitors than they do with GSM and starting from a smaller market share. Not good.

It must be a highly politically-charged atmosphere in the 6 Musketeer meetings, with conflicting agendas.
