you are m2m at the opening settlement on Fri, 12/15 it settles to cash last day to trade however is Thurs, 12/14 (same as most cash-settled index options) I don't mind letting my index options settle to cash, but, depending on your strategy and style, some like to close it out themselves (or roll) don't wait till the last minute if you don't want it cash-settled (expire)
