Eric L: "re: Wireless Data Tornado (WAP)"

Curious why you see SMS or "messaging" as a "data" tornado.

Huge numbers of short messages are being used and their number is indeed growing very rapidly, but this is not the wireless data / internet (intranet) breakthrough I have been looking for. This type of "messaging" is simply using a voice system for short messages in lieu of voice mail, no?

Also isn't this used primarily where the data rate is so slow (GSM) that SMS is the only practical "data" application?

What I have been looking for is a data wireless tornado which reflects the wireless / internet nexus.

On another subject:

Here is another CDMA modem card announcement. (There have been several recently.)

Seems like the CDMA modems represent a major new area for Qualcomm revenue and earnings, no? And a new area for investigation in Qualcomm's "network".

Best as always.

PS Do you still "hate" WAP or are you warming toward it?
