I thought so, too. But people are always telling me that I am being argumentative when I think I am just having a heated discussion.

The weirdest mortage related anecdote I know involved a guy who wanted to borrow money even though he already had two mortgages, so he filed forged releases in the land records, and when the title searchers did a check, they reported there were no liens on the property, so he got the new mortgage. That one took audacity, since he still owned the house when the truth came out. The issue was, which of the mortgages had priority when foreclosure time came? Obviously the releases were not effective, but there was a lot of huffing and puffing and I think the lenders just divvied up the pie.

All the mortgage related scams I can think of involve the borrower, not the lender - but in the securities industry, the institutions are the ones pulling the scams.
