My dad went to dental school while I was a kid, so I was exposed to a lot of gross stuff early in life, and developed a pretty strong stomach. Like the time he dissected a cat at home for gross anatomy! And the time he boiled a cadaver scapula (shoulder blade) on the stove to get the meat off - my mother threw the pot away afterwards! And there were always pictures of people with oral tumors lying around the place. Ick. Even so, when I worked at his office as a dental assistant, I always thought it was too yucky, looking at people's mouths all the time. He tried to talk us kids into going to dental school, and we all said no. But one sister and my brother are both nurses, and my sister's husband is a nurse, and one of my sister's girls is in nursing school and one is pre-med. And my sister's father in law is a surgeon, and one of his kids is a psychiatrist and one is a dentist, and one is my brother in law, the nurse. Guess what we talk about at family get togethers? How terrible health insurance companies are, and how HMOs are ruining the industry.
