Why didn't you like the ending of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon? I thought it was completely consistent with the premise of the movie. The main protagonists were willing to sacrifice themselves for the good of the young person they were training - they kept holding back. The old nurse had a lot of anger that she needed to express, but it went awry.

Doing the right thing sometimes means not having what you want more than anything, not having what you probably deserve more than anything. Virtue is its own reward.

It was very sad - but not unsatisfactory to me. And the final scene, where the young person tried to make amends, or maybe just run away from the misery that the young person's wilfullness had caused, also made sense. People don't usually live happily ever after, not in the real world. Realistically, where could the young person go?
