I don't raise ducks.

When I had my country property, water would run off the neighbour's farm through my land on its way to the creek. Sometimes, a puddle would form in my backyard. I lived less than a mile from a Ministry of Natural Resources migratory bird sanctuary, and often waterfoul would find the menu offered in the field more appealing than what was offered at the MNR. My puddle would be just perfect for an after dinner swim.

I'd get a few ducks, but mostly swans, with the odd goose.

They weren't mine, they didn't live here, they were guests. They also looked clean and shiny. I once had a wild turkey walking down my road: They're an odd bird.

The duck cleaning story comes from The Commander's method of handling the telephone salespeople who interrupt meals selling furnace duct cleaning services. He'd say he cleans his own ducks by adding dishwashing liquid to the pond and they wash away the dirt as they splash and swim. He's never bothered by repeat calls.

Cheers, PW.
