My theory is that English is such a great language that we shouldn't have to learn other languages

I took 2 years of German in High-school but wasnt any good at it, just been giving Sherry a hard time and if she uses one line from this and/or looks it up and finds what she may need then its worth something. And attempting the language always brings out help in people- its a natural thing, and onething Sherry will see or feel is how genuine they are or attitude the people she meets and thats something one gets in any language.
If I want to go to a foreign country I go to New York City-
every kind of people and life style, language all mixed up and in.
Story- Last summer I have a mission impossible, load all day in Dayton, OH drive Sat. annd deliver 3 shipments on Sunday - 2 in Brooklyn and 1 in Scarsdale then Monday AM in Vermont- everyone of these had big things and needed help-
no one wanted to work on Sunday's in the summer time- its the only day off- I'm driving down the road witha cell phone calling everyone I know to help and no go with only one hope
and I wont know till Sat at noon then call all three people explaining this - and it was I DONT KNOW- which makes it even worse - everyone has a agenda and timetable and wanting it cuz its late, going out of town and on and on, so on Sat at noon, my hope comes thru and I will get 2 guys (I asked for three) that will meet me in Brooklyn at the first residence. Everyone knows now- I go the wrong way down the one way street and block the street on a Sunday morning for the first one- and it wasnt greeted nicely- screaming yelling- blah blah blah--
I start working NO HELP-- I do what I can for an hour and need help and ready to give up when these two guys show up.
They are apologetic and say the subway was late and they say this in broken english- they are from Romania- one guy several months the other last week- and they work-- and they try real hard to speak english and want me to explain 'terms' and 'words' as we work. Well my hard-ass shippers(two lesbians in a black neighborhood-some kind of reverse segregation stuff I was hearing by their irate nieghbors-shaking my head) lighten up and help them too and we laugh and work and have a great time- they (the Romanian guys) get tips, I dont the shipment was late but these two ladies turn out to be good people- they offer to split with me-- I just say keep it- you did good,
next people she is a Vietnamese lady with a broken Houston texas accent married to a guy from the Phillipines with a broken New York accent. English lesson #2-- I couldn't understand anybody. They all understood each other and we laughed and worked and explained words and she (my shipper) sat in her good dining chair on the sidewalk on Sunday at noon and would explain to these guys who would RUN up and down these stairs and regular New Yorkers stop and watch and ask her who she is to have these guys running and wanted the telephone numbers on and on.....these places in Brooklyn aint easy - they do it witha smile- I was just laughing. We all get a tip and thats nice.
the third lady in Scarsdale is right out of a Henny Youngman joke -JAP- I mean when I called I heard it from one end to the other. Well true to form - didint want to pay blah blah blah...but my guys won her over and before the evening was done- they got tips and she was going to drive them back to Harlem where they lived so they didnt have to take the train cuz I was heading north. These two guys actually changed the clothes on the shoulder of Highway 9 in scarsdale in Sunday coming home traffic so they didnt get any sweat on this womans Mercedes Bentz convertible.
Unbelievable.........and all of this good day would of never happened if these two guys did not want to know a foriegn language- english- esp the one that just came over who really didnt have to- his good friend could of spoke romanian - cuz he was just visiting and going back to 'mother' country. I tried to get them to help the next week while loading to the west coast and one was booked and the other was gone.
I have another story about a Puerto rican family that didnt talk english and we had a mexican-stand off in Connecticut,
but another time- I have to clean up.

lousy market.
