And while I'm at it...reflecting...and the shootings and our children...These are some of my thoughts ..actually wrote this to some of my family yesterday....

In view of what happened this week in San Diego (and now, PA)...I was thinking about children in general and the 15 or so years that that youngster has been living. I realize how few really good heros he (and this generation) have grown up with.
My hubby and I were lucky in that we grew up in a time when our parents cared what happened to us...and yes, those parents were "over the top" sometimes as far as wanting to know where we were, with whom, and why....And truth be known, I'm sure ours felt the same thing...
But the very thought of bringing guns to school, or anyplace else, is SO FOREIGN to anything we grew up thinking, it is hard to relate. AND both of us grew up near and around guns, both at home, and in the area. He went to the woods to shoot birds as a young boy with his father, and then alone. I used to play with cap guns, and had squirt gun fights, and played cowboys and indians, good guys and bad guys, etc....but had good role models to follow on radio, then TV and of course the movies. And we had honorable, not perfect, but HONORABLE parents who tried to teach us "right from wrong"....My Dad always said: "Right's Right, and Wrong's Wrong, and you KNOW the difference!"
There were bad guys out there, but we didn't know them. We did listen to our parents, even if sometimes it made us mad.
If I could say anything on a loud speaker to the world today, and if they were listening...I would say:
Love those kids.
Know where and with whom they are with. Set groundrules.
Keep them.
Teach them abut the Golden Rule, and apply it at home.
And Again, Love those kids. |
