Portrait of a Cat

Ebony coat--
Slant green eyes--
Soul of sphinx
Twice as wise--
You proudly pose, in childhood memory,
On the branch of a blossoming peach tree.
Long years have passed since the child grew tall,
But I can recall your portrait hardly blurred at all.

Marysville, WA

Curiosty has a story.

I had loaded in Broomfield,CO one summer day.
Its basically a bedroom community between
Denver and Boulder and if one drives an 18-wheeler
into that town, one must first call the policia
and get a route and identifying number-PIA if you know what I mean.
the day went smoothly and did take, like today ,into early afternoon, locked up the trailer and bid safe voyage to my shipper after checking everything was taken. She did the once over and adios I was gone.
My next stop was Denver which was nice, a quick jaunt in
lousy traffic, and have the rest of the day for what the rest of the day brings. For me, getting a room in a hotel where many movers hang out and hope to see those I know and there is always a story, a laugh or work left to complete.
Well I had the best place to park, got my things and settled in. As usual there is always the nagging need to check in the trailer (especially having time) to make sure things were secured, tools put away and mentally plan the next days work.
Grabbed my keys and unlocked the trailer and cracked the door open letting the bright sunshine in to that completely dark van. The eyes always need to adjust a little but the eyes didn't matter- before I could think there were four paws deeply clawed into my T shirt.
i'm not sure who was more taken aback (I don't want to say scared, heck I aint scared-a nothing(stupid grin)), but there was not suppose to be anything in there that moved and this one was stuck to me.
I jumped,
the cat scratched
I grabbed
the cat jumped.
The fella and his wife just getting out of the truck next to me saw the whole thing and was chuckling and I was trying to tell them the story.
Between them and me we figured we might as well catch that cat. I was someones cat. Well that other drivers wife insisted. Wasn't the shipper- he had a dog. And getting help from a couple more guys we finally caught it, stuck it in a box and got in my truck and drove back to that little bedroom community to set it free. Lousy traffic and getting stopped by a cop for that number and explaining why it was used already played show and tell- a cat in a box and some scratches on my belly. He was a good guy and let me be on my way.
The next door neighbor knew the cat and it was her neighbor's who was still not at home and took the box and off I went.
Lousy traffic and lost my parking space and had to hike a ways to get to the room. From then on I have opened my trailer to peek in and always in somewhere in the back of mind I wait for something to jump. Lucky cat who probably got lured by curiosity or a smell of someones lunch.
Lucky he was able to be caught. I'm not sure what its name was but Lucky sounded good to me. Lucky the other driver had a wife who was a cat lover and or else it would of been another citizen in 'mile-high' doin' the rat-race.

Too bad the cat couldnt talk---- that woman petting her kitty saying how was your day, did you miss me and the cat could actually have a good story, a truck drivers story--
"Meow. you aint gonna believe this sh*t, but there I was, meow,......
