Did a little research tonight...re kids and killing...current vs past century (19th and 20th)... Quite interesting what I could find...and at that, it was my time that was limited, not the materials available...

One SI member today took a little issue with me today on my thought that it is something else, other than guns, that we might want to, as a society, be looking at seriously. He believes that this type of thing has been happening forever. I disagree.

People have always been disrespectful to others, and in every way. Murder has historically always been with us. He thought that the high density cities in the mid and late 1800's had this type of thing in the daily papers. Again, I don't think so.

...Here's some of what I found...

census.gov

Table 8. Population of 100 Largest Urban Places: 1850

Top 20 include
Rank #1 NYC pop 515,547 to Rank #20 Southwark District, PA 38,799
(SFO results destroyed by fire. Pop in 1852 state census was 34,776)

census.gov

Table 12. Population of the 100 Largest Urban Places: 1890

Top 20 include:
Rank #1 NYC pop 1, 515,301 to Rank #20 Louisville city, KY 161,129
(SFO is now #8 with pop of 296,908)

79ny.homepage.com

19th Century New York City Time Line
(By the way, this is year by year Newspaper and Historical Timeline from early 1800's through the 1860's.....NO killing by children of other children noted!!!!)

merrycoz.org
Books and Papers as pretains to American Childhood of 19th Century Children...including mention of Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer....

and this:
merrycoz.org
