That culture is so alien it's impossible to understand, I think. Just not enough in common. I don't see a connection between looting antiquities and destroying the statues, although I can see how those who are trafficking in antiquities will use it to rationalize and justify what they are doing. It's still a violation of international law, but the Taleban isn't a signatory to those conventions. Future generations Afghan people are being ripped off, deprived of their cultural heritage, not the Taleban, but that's the way of the world, isn't it? Everyone who's ever stolen treasure from the "Wogs" has justified it by saying that the "Wogs" wouldn't take care of it and didn't appreciate it anyway. What the hey, maybe they were right.
