After searching the web high and low for a few hours, I thought I would direct anyone considering a dual processor system to the two articles I finally found that address performance gains over one processor. Be sure to also read PW's contribution on this thread for more insight.

These are both dual motherboard reviews, but buried in the technical jargon are occasional comments to the practicality of gaining performance from the dual cpu route, and some tests comparing single to double. The gist: PW's take is right on.

I haven't found any comments specific the best processor setup for a multi task trading environment. From what I've read here on the thread and at Tom's Hardware, I'd have to guess that unless a software package is specifically geared to use dual processors, the gains from doing so will be small. Probably less than using a single faster speed cpu. I don't know if dual processors split resources between regular concurrently running programs in a manner that makes any difference or not. The tests were run one program at a time.
