For one who claims all inside info, it is interesting that you have to go to The Register to find out what Intel is doing, and you still fail. Piii 1 GHz operates at 1.7 Volt, only a tiny bit lower than a desktop 1.75. This tiny bit of progress basically means that Intel is just using the top end of the desktop line for this semi 1 GHz semi mobile chip. It is Piii 700 that operates at 1.35 Volt.
---Damn Joe, you seem really upset. Maybe you should try calming down a bit, and not taking everything so personally. I read your post over on the AMD Mod thread right after the intro, and it seemed to me like you were having fits. Your emotional outbursts really don't do much for your supposed impartiality. I read the announcement wrong, O.K., why you just freakin shoot me down in the dirt, as it seems you are so distraught about it, that you're about to burst a blood vessel.
The fact that it runs at 1.7v, and NOT 1.75v, shows that it's NOT the desktop chip. Your own mobile P3 specs link shows that intel has increased the voltage on the mobile P3 several times in conjunction with speed increases shows me that increasing the voltage again to get the mobile P3 to 1GHz is not unusual. Additionally, it if was the desktop chip, the speedstep technology wouldn't be included which it is.
The power consumption of this chip is 35.87 Watts. I am surprised (NOT) that none of the people who are capable of multiplying their Is with their Vs didn't comment of the fact that this is a pathetic product, driven by marketing and fear of AMD. It is a clear sign of panic in Santa Clara. They have just completely blown their lead in mobile, and will need .13u product compete with AMD's .18u product
---Whatever the power consumption is, I have a feeling that it will STILL be less than the "forever late" AMD offering. Don't you wonder why there are no Palomino Laptops? My guess is that they can't control the heat.
Nobody I know is panicing at all. I know that you would like to believe that, because it would make all your ranting and raving justified. I think 0.13u is on track, and will be shipping 6-12 months ahead of AMD's transition to 0.13u, just as has been widely reported. If you want to see the person who really seems to be panicing, look in a mirror, cause it's you. And I suspect that the reason you are so bent out of shape, is that you are beginning to realize it.
fully stand by my posts I made prior to the release of this processor: Message 15513187

---It's really a shame to see the deterioration that has occurred with you lately. I used to at least have some respect for your opinions, but I guess that was when you were of the opinion that AMD was moving ahead of intel.
I suspect that what really bothers you, is that you're frustrated that AMD has fallen on their face since Atiq Raza left. It was he who was responsible for the "1 hit wonder" successful Athlon launch, using techniques he learned while working for..... Guess who, intel.
AMD's window of opportunity is almost closed, and I suspect that this is what's really bothering you. Don't take it out on me, go talk to Jerry, and his puppet Hector.
Calm Down, it might make people have more respect for your opinions. Nobody pays attention to a ranting, raving madman.
