This may be a myth put out by his supporters, but I heard that Jerry Brown got tagged with the nickname Governor Moonbeam in the 70s when he predicted that sometime in the near future we'd be talking on wireless phones, with the signals being beamed via satellite. Must have sounded crazy at the time.
