I think that being a vegetarian probably just makes a person a lot more aware of their food....and by that, I mean the type of vegetarian who is making sure that they are meeting their nutritional needs. Being very conscious of what you eat seems to be an integral part of keeping well. Also, if you're a real vegan, you're probably going to find that there isn't much in the way of fast foods that will appeal to you. I occasionally ate fries at fast food restaurants when I was with friends, until I read a review of that new book that's out on Fast Foods...can't remember the name of it off hand (perhaps "Fast Food Nation"??, but it's being quoted a lot lately). It mentions that most fries at food chains have some kind of beef extract stuff on them to give them more flavour. That was a bit of a gross out for me. No more junk food fries.

Anyhow, I never know if diets (vegan or otherwise) are that big a help for weight control. For myself, I feel best when I get outside hiking around a lot, which is something I've been doing a lot of over the past couple of weeks and I will probably be going out 3 or 4 times a week (or canoeing) from now on until November. My worst time for gaining weight is between November and March when we get socked in with snow pretty bad. I'm hoping to start spending more of my winters in the south so that will cure that problem.
