We have a family tradition of being taken out to eat at whatever restaurant we want on our birthdays. My older son is a real beef eater, so for his 15th birthday last year we took him to Morton's Steak House. The steaks were excellent, but he did not enjoy it because of the lobster. The waiters have a sample of everything, all the steaks, and even a live lobster with its claws bound, on a cart, to show before you order. The lobster, of course, is not in water, and just lies sort of limply on the cart, looking pathetic. The cart was against the wall when no one was using it, and my son looked at it throughout the entire meal, and it made him very unhappy.

I didn't offer to buy it and free it - we live 4 hours from the nearest ocean, and the lobster didn't really look that lively to me. I don't think being out of the water for such a long time is good for it. Hope they ate it that night.

I was thinking - here we are eating hunks of dead cow, and he's worried about a lobster - maybe he'll make the connection.
