* SK, NTT DoCoMo in Final Negotiations - Message 15968452

* SK Telecom Delays W-CDMA Service - Message 15962927

"..Sources said the SK determined that W-CDMA-2000 service does not have any bright business prospects and thus switched to the CDMA camp..

"..SK Telecom announced Tuesday that it plans to launch commercial service of a CDMA-IMT 2000 service coded as a third-generation CDMA-2000 1X-EV-DO (Evolution Data Only) before the World Cup in June of next year..

How can we begin to reconcile these events?

SK and NTT have been trying to bed one another for months... SK had widely trumpeted plans to build a NTT-style wCDMA network before the World Cup - no doubt planning on integrating their networks with NTT's for the games...

Now, SK has delayed its wCDMA network for an indeterminate period - and contracted with Q to assure 1xevdo networks are up and humming by May 02.

But word is just out that NTT is still close to taking a piece of SK - even though SK has rebuffed NTT's crown jewel.... and in the process cast aspersions on the credibility of NTT's technology.

If NTT was on track to resolve network problems by October as it presently states it will - or even by 02 - would SK have canceled its wCDMA plans? Precisely how bleak are NTT's technology problems?

Now, as things stand, NTT's mobile networks will be incapable of connecting or roaming with Korean carriers during the World Cup. Korean carriers including SK, if they please, will be able to do so with NTT's competitor - KDDI.

Now.... in light of recent events, is there a way that NTT could still connect and roam with Korean carriers during the World Cup? <g>

If not, there's always KDDI....
